EPISODE TIMELINE:

by LaChefski@go.com

"TS" is a neat&tidy Sunday-Thursday timeline. It also seems to parallel "real" time, with baby Porter-Manning going out for the first time at apx 10 days old.

Sunday night -- Sam escorts Judy home from an indecent art movie.

Monday morning -- Craziness abounds in the MM kitchen as Karen calls to speak with Jessie. She hopes Jess is still on for ice skating "Thursday night." Jessie reminds her mom she has a big history paper due the next day. Sam arrives at work at 9:37 -- whew, not much time before their 9:45 meeting. Melissa arrives to tape Sam&Rick's ideas for Colin's webgeeks. At BL Cafe, Tiffany and Jake show off the baby to Judy, who then answers a call from Karen, who hopes to have dinner "tonight." Judy no can do, but suggests "lunch tomorrow." That night, in Grace's room, Grace&Zoe&Judy tease each other and Judy denies she's going out with Sam. Lily happens by and reminds her sister, "What do you call last night?" Sam arrives, and soon Grace asks, "When did you meet?" "About two years/months ago," Judy and Sam chorus. Lily clarifies that it was right when Rick started working with him. Sam leaves to meet with "Ian."

Tuesday morning -- Jeanine, in search of a divorce attorney, visits Karen at work, and learns that Karen is friends with Sam's current, non-bimbo girlfriend. Also at work, Rick asks Sam how "dinner" was "last night." Sam will be seeing his dinner partner again "tonight." Karen and Judy have lunch at BL, Karen saying she had a visitor "this morning," that she -- Karen -- wants "full disclosure." The plot thickens. That night, back at MM, Lily dines on ice cream as Grace wonders why her mom lied about Sam&Judy. At Sam's bohemian studio, he entertains Melissa. Bad timing all around when Judy calls. She (Judy) next phones Rick to verify that he lied "last night" to cover for Sam. Back at Sam's, his heart's not in it with Melissa.

Wednesday morning -- Lily arrives at BL with her coffee, to offer Judy a sisterly ear. At his office, Rick informs Sam that lying put him (Rick) in a "strange position with Judy last night." Sam stresses out. That evening, Karen drives Jessie, and suggests something to eat -- Jessie passes, but together they reminisce about the old days with Sam and Jeanine and Jamie. Karen points out that Jamie met Judy "at Christmas," but Jessie hopes he doesn't know his dad and Judy cheated on his mom when he (his dad) still lived at home. This fact is news to Karen. At Lily's, Grace wonders to her mom if all men cheat. Rick enters and adds his admission. After Grace exits, Rick recalls TBM to Lily. Karen, agitated, finds Judy still at BL. She realizes that "everybody just does what they need to do." Later that night, Sam phones Judy and says, "About the other night..." [ this should be LAST night, but nevermind ] Judy breaks up with him.

Thursday morning -- Sam sees/joins Karen at the coffee shop. He later tries to call Judy, who is there (not at work) but doesn't pick up. That evening, Judy visits MM -- she and Grace share an awkward, confuzzled moment before the phone rings. It's Karen, who has her skates and is ready to come pick up Jess. Problems exist -- Jessie is worried about her paper. Karen can't excite her daughter about a short get-together, and -- hanging up -- dissolves into tears. Sam is Sam, though different, and goes to Judy's. He proclaims that "time doesn't mean anything!" He wants her in his life.

TRIVIA:

NIT PICKERS:

Too cosy? Rick always claimed that after Jessie was born, he and Karen barely had sex. From the way he always talked about it, the marriage was basically dead. Yet he and her were sure cozy and lovey-dovey lying on the beach with Sam & Jeanine. -- Westscot1212

9:00 (ABC) "Once and Again." This series begins the new year by being shifted to a new time. Wherever it's shown on Fridays, though, this serialized, mature drama is being tossed away slowly; Friday is no place for a show that needs to be seen regularly in order to be fully appreciated. That said, tonight's episode is an easy place to dive in, because it looks back, not ahead: its plot involved flashbacks, but ones newly created for the episode.
